TV Sundaram Iyengar & Sons was founded in 1911 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, a place with a lot of history and culture. At first, the company mostly sold cars and buses. Over several decades, the organization grew, which led to the creation of TVS logo in 1978, a division whose sole purpose was to make bikes with Suzuki.
After a few years, in 1982, the TVS 50 moped showed up all over India’s streets. It was an instant hit, and many people loved how cheap it was and how well it used gas. Therefore, in 1984, the company marked a significant moment in the history of Indian automobiles by releasing the TVS Shaolin, the country’s first motorcycle entirely made in India.

The 2000s were marked by a rise in production and a deliberate push into foreign markets in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
2005 was a turning point when the TVS Apache sport bike series came out. It was a 200cc gem designed and built entirely by the company, showing off its natural skills. The next ten years were just as important. When TVS bought the British giant Norton Motorcycles in 2010, it entered the high-end motorbike market. When TVS released the Akula track bike in 2016, it made its plans to create high-performance and racing motorbikes even stronger. An unexpected event in 2018 was that TVS expanded its foreign reach by buying Triumph Motorcycles, a well-known British motorcycle company.

Initial history of TVS logo
Clayton Dewandre Holdings of the UK teamed up with Sundaram Clayton in 1962 to start the company. It made many car parts, including brakes, exhausts, compressors, etc. In 1976, the company opened a new section that included making mopeds. This was done in Hosur. The first two-seater motorcycle in India was the TVS 50, made at the Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu in 1980. In 1987, Sundaram Clayton Ltd. and Suzuki Motor Corporation joined forces after working together on technology with Suzuki Ltd., a substantial Japanese automaker. In 1989, bikes were first made for sale to the public.
Suzuki relationship
TVS and Suzuki worked together for one year to share tools for designing and making two-wheelers for the South Asian market. After changing its name to TVS-Suzuki, the company made several cars, such as the Suzuki Shaolin, Suzuki Supra, Suzuki Samurai, and Suzuki Shogun. In 2001, after splitting up with Suzuki and officially giving up all rights to use the Suzuki name, TVS Motor changed its name. There was also a 30-month ban, during which Suzuki promised not to bring competing two-wheelers to the Indian market.
What it means and why
The TVS logo comprises an emblem placed on top of a nameplate. The brand’s visual design is simple but very sophisticated, making it seem reliable and consistent.

Awards and honors
The Deming Application Prize was given to TVS Motor in 2002.
In the same year the TVS Victor motorbike was made, TVS Motor won the National Award from the Technology Development Board, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India for successfully commercializing Indian technology.[10] The TVS Scooty Pep won the “Outstanding Design Excellence Award” in 2004 from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and Business World magazine.
In 2008, TVS Motor was given the TPM Excellence Award by the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance for its excellent use of Total Productivity Maintenance methods.
In 2004, the University of Warwick in the UK gave Venu Srinivasan, Chairman Emeritus of the company, an honours Doctorate of Science. The Government of India gave him the Padma Shri in 2010, one of the country’s highest civilian awards.
In 2007, technology giant SAP AG gave TVS Motor the Ace Award for Most Innovative NetWeaver Implementation and the Team Tech 2007 Award of Excellence for Integrated Use of Computer-Aided Engineering Technologies. Both awards were given for the creative ways that TVS Motor used technology.
